Dental Implants

What are Implants?

A Dental Implant is a procedure where metallic screw-like posts are placed deep within the jawbone to replace missing or damaged teeth with prosthetic ones that match the realness of original teeth in looks and in performance. These posts act as tooth roots.

Overview

of the Procedure

  • The chosen methodology of Dental Implant surgeries is dependent upon the type of component implanted into the jawbone, requiring full integration of the object into the jawbone (osseointegration) and complete healing and growth of the bone around it, which takes about 3 months on average.
  • The first stage of Implant surgery is making an incision in the gum to expose the jawbone underneath the missing tooth and prepping the appropriate implant position by placing the implant post (made of special metallic substance) into the jawbone and enclosing it, allowing it to heal in due time. Once the implant post/screw has bonded to the jawbone and the area has healed completely, the post is uncapped to place the tooth base inside. The tooth is then secured on top using specialised materials (called abutments).

Anesthesia:

Dental Implants are performed under local anesthesia.

Duration of Stay:

The Implant surgery requires you to stay in Istanbul anywhere from 10 to 14 days after the procedure, as per the dentist’s diagnosis and recommendation.

Post-Op & Aftercare

  • After Implant surgery, the patient might experience certain side effects such as swelling of the gums and face, as well as pain in the implant position. In this case, the surgeon will prescribe some painkillers and/or antibiotics.
  • The patient is advised to consume only soft foods and drinks/fluids until the affected area is healed.
  • Refraining from any heavy physical activity or exercise to prevent possible bleeding in the implant area.
  • Refraining from smoking for a minimum of 10 days after the surgery to minimise the risk of infection.
  • Maintaining oral hygiene and keep contact with the dentist for continuous follow-up after the procedure.
  • Maintaining cleanliness of the implant(s) daily by using fine toothbrushes.
